Following his graduation from the Humber Jazz program and advanced education with Paul Robson at the Ontario College of Percussion and Music, Jay found endless work as a drummer. His calling has taken him across North America and to such far away lands as Dubai.
Discipline on the Drums
Jay Burak has spent years studying and performing on the drums. By the time he joined OCOPM in 1994, he was already an accomplished musician. Continuing to performing pop, rock and jazz in Toronto, and throughout Canada and the United States, Jay has maintained a dedication to the art of drumming and he shares that with his students.
The Tribute
Jay Burak has been the backbone of countless tribute bands for years and has secured himself the drum throne for well known act ABBA Mania. The act requires focus and an understanding of how to play for the song, yet still being inspired on the drums.
The Glue that Holds So Many Performances Together
In addition to ABBA Mania, Jay has performed with tributes to Tom Jones, the Bee Gees, Ozzy Osbourne, the Dixie Chicks, Rod Stewart and the Stray Cats. He has blended pop drumming with orchestral performances in appearances with the San Diego, Los Angeles, Winnipeg, and Toronto Symphony Orchestras. And the two have overlapped in the fusion of pop tributes and symphony performances at Roy Thomson Hall, the Centennial Concert Hall in Winnipeg, among others. Truly, an act many a drummer would like to follow.
